Google Adwords

The latest research suggests that 91% of UK searches are made using Google (source: Hitwise, May 2011). AdWords is Google's advertising platform that enables companies to reach online users who are carrying out searches on Google.

How does it work?

Essentially, you show ads promoting your company and products on Google search result pages. You may have seen these before at the top and right hand side of the search results.

One of the biggest benefits that AdWords offers is the ability to precisely target ads to users based on their interests. The result is that the user sees highly relevant ads, which they are more likely to click on.

And because ads on search engines are displayed only in response to what a user is searching for, the user is also more likely to be further along in the buying cycle, and more likely to be ready to convert.

Can I afford it?

This is all totally measurable as well – you know exactly which searches convert into sales, leads or enquiries so you can spend your budget in the most effective areas.

And you can easily test on a small scale to dip your toes in the water, so there’s no need to risk a lot of money trying it out. You specify how much money you want to spend up front, so you are in complete control of what you spend.
